In a backstitch, the needle goes into the fabric behind the thread of the previous stitch. As seen in the video below, first bring the needle up through the back of the fabric slightly in front of where the stitching will begin. Next, take a single stitch backwards to point where the stitching began. Lastly, bring the needle up again a short distance from the first stitch on the line. Repeat until the sew line is completed.
